The Birth of Weatherproof Silks
The story of weatherproof silks begins with us. It was Allerton’s who first reimagined racing colours for wet weather, inspired by the challenges faced by jockeys enduring rain, sleet, and wind in sodden woollen jumpers. What began as a question, ‘How much weight could be saved in wet conditions?’, became an innovation that transformed racing silks forever. Today, no one produces weatherproof racing colours with the same precision and expertise.
This fabric remains true to that pioneering spirit. Lightweight yet durable, it is crafted from water-repellent nylon that sheds rain, resists wind and breathes easily. Unlike traditional silks, it doesn’t absorb water or weight, preserving a jockey’s focus and balance even in challenging conditions. The material is a quiet reassurance, performing seamlessly, without drawing attention to itself.
